WWE fans are worried John Cena could be retiring after the superstar posted a cryptic tweet.

Cena has not been seen on WWE screens since his Greatest Royal Rumble victory over Triple H last April, which followed his quick-flash WrestleMania 34 defeat by The Undertaker.

He has since fought at a WWE Live Event, earlier this month in Shanghai where he showcased his new alternative 'sixth move of doom finisher'.

And he will officially star at next weekend's WWE Super Show-Down when he partners Bobby Lashley in a tag team match against Kevin Owens and Elias in Melbourne, Australia.

But his latest social media message has set alarm bells ringing with WWE fans concerned that 16-time world champion Cena will call time on his illustrious squared-circle career.

Cena tweeted: "Nothing lasts forever. When doing something you love, make sure to be present and enjoy it. That way if and when it ends, you can look back with fond memories instead of regret."

The 41-year-old has enjoyed huge success in Hollywood recently and is tipped to follow in the footsteps of another legendary WWE superstar, The Rock who is now the highest-paid actor in show-business.

But WWE fans seemingly do want him to hang up his boots just yet. Many responded outright with the question, "Are you retiring?"

Another fan posted: "John, is this a sign that you could be leaving the WWE very soon? If so, you will be greatly and sorely missed."

Cena's film projects have certainly kept him busy. However, he is expected to feature not only at the October 6 WWE Super Show-Down but also at November's WWE Crown Jewel pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia.
