Commuters using Mombasa road are forced to persevere long hours on the route due to a heavy traffic snarl-up. The traffic gridlock started early afternoon as residents made their way to Machakos stadium where the national football team Harambee Stars were facing Zanzibar in the Cecafa final.

“I am afraid those who will leave the City after 1pm might find the game ongoing. This traffic is quickly building up,” said Philip Otieno, a fan.

Heavy trucks using the route further contributed to the traffic further delaying the trip for the fans headed to watch the 3pm playoff.

Nairobi city governor mike Sonko had on Saturday flagged buses that would transport fans to and from the city’s Nyayo Stadium.

“Free transport to and from Machakos will be provided for the residents who want to go cheer our national team as they play Zanzibar in the Cecafa finals,” said Sonko.

The free transport would save Kenyans approximately Sh200 charged when using public vehicles to and from the city.

City residents living along Mombasa road were highly inconvenienced with the rare Sunday Traffic as some sort alternatives routes to the homes.

Harambee Stars who beat Burundi 1-0 on Thursday's first semi-final at the final at the Kenyatta hosted Minnows Zanzibar in Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos as Uganda took on Burundi in the play-off match at the same venue.
