John Ashiundu touched down four tries as defending champions Kabras Sugar thrashed returning Kisumu RFC 72-10 to kick off their Kenya Cup title defense on the front foot at the Kakamega Showgrounds in Kakamega on Saturday.

Kabras and Kenya Simbas captain George Nyambua added two tries to the four scored by Ashiundu as Teddy Akala, John Kubu, Walter Okoth, Mathias Osimbo, Dan Angwech, Lameck Ambetsa all got their names on the score sheet.

The win puts the millers on top of the Kenya Cup after round one with more points.

In Nakuru, Menengai Oilers came from 10-0 down to edge out Homeboyz 43-13 at the Refinery Grounds.

After two unconverted Homeboyz tries, Clinton Odhiambo went over for his first try of the season that Timothy Lugalia converted as Oiler cut the visitors lead to 10-7.

Beldad Ogeta scored Oilers’ second try but a conversion attempt from Lugalia was unsuccessful but they led 12-10.

Homeboyz would reclaim their lead through a penalty they went ahead 12-13.

However, Ibrahim Ayoo made sure the hosts took a 19-13 lead at the break after crossing over and Lugalia adding the extras.

In the final half, Ogeta scored an unconverted try to lead 24-13 and secure the bonus point win before Tyson Maina, Brian Ndirangu and Elkeans Musonye sealed the win.
