Kabras, KCB and Strathmore Leos in pole position ahead of Tisap Sevens in Eldoret

With only two legs left before the conclusion of the National Sevens Circuit, three teams have emerged as the frontrunners in the race for the overall title.

They are series leaders Kabras Sugar, former champions KCB and Strathmore Leos. The trio are perched at the top of the table standings with 80, 78 and 63 points.

And with only two legs left before the conclusion of the series, the three teams will not be in the mood to drop points needed to wrestle the title.

The three teams are aware of the task ahead of them and therefore not taking chances against giant killers who are equally determined not to be relegated from the main tournament.

With Tisap Sevens set for Eldoret on Saturday and Sunday, the three teams are divided in different groups but KCB are the top seeds.

KCB, the winners of the Christie Sevens are in Pool A with Kenyatta University's Blak Blad, Homeboyz and Mombasa.

KCB head coach Andrew Amonde said they have no option but to do better than their arch rivals Kabras Sugar in Eldoret ahead of the Kabeberi Sevens next weekend in Nairobi.

"We just have to do better than them (Kabras Sugar) in the last two tournaments for us to emerge the overall champions. They are our biggest threat and we must beat them to emerge the champions," Amonde told Standard Sports.

Earlier, Kabras head coach Felix Ayange said their eyes were on the ball and there's no turning back.

"We are more focused on the title and our urge is to win the last two legs to make the final leg (Kabeberi Sevens) a formality," Ayange said at Nakuru Athletic Club when they won Prinsloo Sevens.

Christie Sevens losing finalists Strathmore Leos head Pool B and will face stiff opposition from the circuit defending champions Menengai Oilers, Catholic Monks and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

Leos coach Louis Kisia said he's aware of the task of ahead and they are taking a match at a time from the group stages with an aim to reach the knockout stages.

"The real game starts at the knockout stages but we are not going to underrate any team from the word go. Our aim is to reach the quarterfinals and from there we'll chart our destiny," Kisia.

Circuit leaders Kabras Sugar have Kenya Harlequin, Daystar Falcons and Kisumu RFC in Pool C while Nakuru lead the charge in Pool D against unpredictable Mwamba, Nondescript and the University of Eldoret Trojans who will be playing in the top tier at their backyard.
