KCB shifts focus to Christie Sevens after finishing third in Nakuru

KCB Sevens assistant coach Denis 'Ironman' Mwanja has urged his charges to shift their attention to the upcoming Christie Sevens after emerging third during the concluded Prinsloo Sevens at the Nakuru Athletics Club.

The bankers defeated arch-rivals Menengai Oilers 22-12 in the third place playoff match to clinch the bronze medal behind winners Kabras Sugar and Kenya Harlequins who settled for the second position.

Currently, KCB sits second in the National Sevens Circuit standings garnering 56 points after three legs played so far, seven points behind Kabras who have accumulated 63 points.

"Today, we have blown hot and cold, we did not fire when we were expected to despite having prepared adequately for this leg of the series.

"We were third at the Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa and even though this is a marathon, we need to up our game to reach the finals. Right now, we must re-energize and embark on our training before the Christie 7s which is just a week away," said Mwanja.

The team defeated varsity lads Strathmore Leos 14-7 in a morning quarterfinal-clash that was closely contested before bowing out of the title charge after a 15-0 loss to Kabras in the semis.

Captain Vincent Onyala said: "The boys have been exceptional in this competition and despite the third place, we will hold our heads high even as we prepare for the subsequent legs. I urge all our fans to continue backing our team and we will not disappoint them."

The fourth leg of the National Sevens Circuit will be held next weekend at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi before the fifth edition in Eldoret.
