Kisumu and Nondescripts sailed through to the cup quarters at the second round of the National Sevens Circuit after claiming top two berths in their respective pools at the Driftwood Sevenss on Saturday at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Kisumu sailed through by the barest of margins, finishing second in Group B after registering an upset 17-0 win over Homeboyz in between a 5-36 loss to Kabras Sugar and a surprise 0-5 defeat to hosts Mombasa.

Kisumu (-19) , Mombasa (-26) and Homeboyz (-28) were tied on 5 points with Kisumu's slighty superior points difference securing them a place in the last eight.

Speaking after his side's qualification, Kisumu Head Coach Lawrence Buyachi said, "I am obviously excited about this outcome, it is a mix of hard work and some luck, considered there was a three way tie between ourselves, Homeboyz and Mombasa. We look forward to the next step which is a cup quarterfinal against KCB."

Kabras Sugar registered three wins on the bounce to top the pool.

Nondescripts recovered from an opening defeat to KCB to secure second place in Group A with victories over Nakuru ( 10-5) and Blak Blad ( 12-10) to make the cup quarters.

KCB finished top of the pool with three wins, 22-0 against Nondescripts, 45-5 against Blak Blad and 17-5 against Nakuru.

Strathmore Leos and Mwamba topped Group C and D and will be joined in the last eight by Menengai Oilers and Kenya Harlequin.
