Koyonzo, St Peters Mumias and Kakamega High run riot in rugby sevens

National rugby sevens champions Koyonzo Secondary begun their Kakamega County Secondary Schools championship defense according to plan, after posting impressive results in their opening games.

Koyonzo defeated Mukhonje 57-0 before thrashing Malava 83-0. At the same time, St Peter's Mumias picked a 64-5 victory over Mwihila before hammering Milimani 50-0.

Former champions Kakamega High also thrashed Kongoni 50-5 and Mwihila 64-0.

Koyonzo coach Elly Okwemba said they are just beginning to show their power which will reach full maximum at the nationals.

"The goal remains to qualify for the national finals because without that, we cannot fight to retain our title and return to East Africa. We are determined and focused. We want to score as many points as possible because we want to make it a consistent feature of our style of play," said Okwemba.

Meanwhile, Agenga Mixed Secondary School registered mixed results as the Migori County games also kicked off yesterday.

The hosts picked a win and draw in football, as they aim to qualify for the Nyanza regional finals set for Maranda from July 18.

Agenga drew 0-0 with Tuk Jowi in their opening girls' football match before their boys' counterparts saw off Gotenganya 2-0 in their fixture.

Agenga Girls are in Group A against Obware and Tuk Jowi.
