National rugby Sevens champions Koyonzo Secondary School are optimistic of repeating last year’s feat as the Kakamega County Secondary School games kick off on Thursday at Kakamega High School.
Last year, Koyonzo brushed aside opponents including heavyweights Kakamega High to emerge county champions and head coach Elly Okwemba said they are ready to repeat that feat.
“We are ready for another run. Last year was great, but this year, you will see wonders because the boys are very hungry to compete and win especially after the disappointment they had in Term One games," said Okwemba.
Koyonzo were banned from the Western regional Term One games three months ago after being found culpable of fielding an illegible player in their rugby 15s semifinals. Butula proceeded to win the Western gong.
Okwemba said they have put behind their rugby 15s hiccups and their focus is on proving everyone wrong.

“Last year many people said it was a fluke that we won. Well, this year we are going to confirm to doubters that Koyonzo is already a rugby power house and we will dominate.”
Koyonzo headline Group A which has Mukhonje, Malava, Chebuyusi and Ikonyero.
Former champions Kakamega High will renew their rivalry with St Peter's Mumias, Mwihila, Kongoni, Milimanai in Group B.
“We are going to take it a game at a time. Many people have ruled us out but never dare a sleeping giant because the results are known. Kakamega High will forever remain on top but I believe in my team,” said Kakamega coach Amos Wamanga.
