Kenya Sevens kicked off Dubai Sevens on the back foot after Argentina capitalized on Shujaa mistakes to win 19-5 in the Group C opener match played on Friday in South Africa.

The Damian McGrath managed to get their first win of the 2022-2023 World Rugby Sevens Series season back in Dubai last weekend, Kenyans were hoping for a better performance.

However, Shujaa were a pale shadow of themselves and were punished for their silly mistakes.

The South Americans capitalized on Kenya's three knock on errors to score three converted tries that won them the match.

Agustin Fraga gave Argentina a 5-0 lead after missed conversion before Fraga stretched the lead to 12-0 after taking advantage of Herman Humwa's second knock on.

In the final half, fresh legs from substitute Daniel Taabu improved ball movement as Kevin Wekesa who received a pass from Taabu made a strong carry that was finished by Dennis Abukuse to cut the deficit to 12-5.

However, with the new found momentum, Kenya once again shot themselves in the foot just seconds after restarting the game as Taabu knocked the ball forward handing easy possession back to Argentina.

The Las Pumas proceeded to land a third try under the posts by Juan Molinuevo and converted by Alejo Lavayen for a 19-5 win.

On Saturday, Kenya Sevens a will resume day two action with a clash against record series champions New Zealand at 10.07am before facing Spain in their last match at 3.25pm.
