Kenya Lionesses forward Bernadette Olesia is confident of a good showing at the Rugby Africa Women's Cup Group B competition slated for October 29-November 2 2022 in Kampala, Uganda

Though Olesia expects stiff competition from hosts Uganda Lady Cranes, she believes they have what it takes to top the group.

"Training has been quite intense, we're taking each day at a time. My expectation is for us to top the pool though we know the Uganda Lady Cranes is a tough team and are also out to win," Olesia told KRU Media.

"So we have to put our heads in and fight hard so that we can top the pool."

The Lionesses, under the tutelage of former Kenya Sevens international Dennis Mwanja have been drawn together with hosts Uganda and Zambia.

They will begin their campaign with a clash against Zambia on October 29 before taking on Uganda on November 2.

The winner of this competition will be promoted to Group A of the 2023 tournament alongside South Africa and Namibia.

Meanwhile, Kenya men's national sevens team, Shujaa, have been drawn in Group D for the Hong Kong 7s, the opening leg of the 2022-2023 World Rugby Sevens Series season set for November 4-6 in Hong Kong.

Shujaa, who finished 12th last season with 49 points, are in the same group alongside Argentina, Canada and Ireland.

Damian McGrath's boys will open their campaign on November 4, with a clash against 2022 Rugby World Cup bronze medallists Ireland before taking on Argentina.

The East African nation will then wrap up their preliminary round with a match against Canada who finished behind them in the overall series standings last season.
