Kenya see off Scotland to reach Challenge Trophy semis

Kenya Sevens push to redeem themselves with fifth place finish at the ongoing Rugby World Cup Sevens at Cape Town, South Africa continued on Saturday evening after their statement 24-5 win over Scotland in the Challenge Trophy quarterfinals.

Shujaa hopes of replicating their 2013 semifinals feat at the World Cup ended in the round of 16 on Friday evening after losing 22-07 to Argentina.

Damian McGrath charges who were full of mistakes against the Argentines came to play against the Scott with Herman Humwa giving Shujaa a 7-0 lead after Samuel Oliech's conversion.

Billy Odhiambo pushed the scores to 12 before Vincent Onyala dummied the Scots' defence to land his third try of the competition as Kenya Sevens took a healthy 17-0 lead at the break.

Captain Nelson Oyoo joined the scoreboard as Oliech added the extras for a commanding 24-0 lead before Kaleem Barreto scored Scotland's consolation try.

"After a disappointing game against Argentina yesterday, we were pleased to get the win against Scotland. We stuck to the plan and held the ball, a tactic that helped us ease off pressure and score points," said Odhiambo after the win.

In other quarterfinal matches, England thrashed Chile 35-0, USA edged out Wales 33-5 while Uruguay stopped Canada 19-12.

Shujaa will now meet England in the Challenge Trophy semi-final at 6.59 pm on Saturday with Uruguay and United States battling in the other semi.
