Shujaa to play New Zealand in Commonwealth quarters from 11pm today

Kenya Sevens will face off against New Zealand in the 2022 Commonwealth Games after progressing through to the group stage on Saturday.

Shujaa finished second in Group D behind leaders Australia after losing their last match to the Aussies.

Shujaa started the Commonwealth Games on the front foot with a statements 27-14 win over neighboring rivals Uganda before booking their last four place with a massive 45-0 win over renowned sprinting nation Jamaica in the second match.

With two win on Friday, Kenya were already assured of a quarterfinal place and faced Australia just to determine who will top the pool heading into the knockout stages.
In the very tight and low scoring affair, indiscipline mistakes saw Kenya lose their first match in Birmingham after a 7-5 defeat to the Aussies.

Kenya will now face off against the New Zealand today from 11.10pm East African Time.

In other quarterfinals, Australia will face off against Oceania nation Samoa as Olympic gold medalists Fiji face off against Scotland.

African Sevens giants South Africa will play Canada in the final quarterfinal match.
The semifinals will be played on Sunday.
