Oilers aim at winning National Sevens title

Fresh from lifting their first Prinsloo Sevens title, Menengai Oilers are now focusing on winning the National Sevens Circuit title for the first time.
The team, which is in its best form, has picked up 22 points from their exploits in Prinsloo Sevens.
They lost in the Dala Sevens final in Kisumu two weeks ago and have a realistic chance of accomplishing their ambitions if they win the Kakamega Sevens this weekend.
Oilers lead the table standings with 94 points. Their big threats come from the circuit defending champions KCB who have 88 points and Strathmore Oleos, who boost 84 points.
Oilers' head coach Gibson Weru is well aware of the task ahead of him and is determined to achieve this ambition as they have a realistic chance of making their dream come true.

And to achieve this, Weru said they must reach the final in Kakamega, for them to win the overall title.
“Winning the Prinsloo title boosted our quest to win the overall title and we will aim at repeating the same feat in Kakamega this weekend. I must also congratulate my playing unit for a job well-done,” Weru told Standard Sports.
Weru was full of praise to kicker specialist Geoffrey Ominde for being instrumental in their Prinsloo championships that ensured all the departments worked smoothly on their way to victory.
In the final, Oilers defeated stubborn Strathmore Leos 12-7 in a pulsating fixture.
Dennis Abukuse touched down before Steve Arunga made the conversion as Oilers led 7-0 at the break.
Abukuse increased the tally in the second half with another touchdown and he did not make a mistake with the conversion for a 12-0 lead before Branson Madigo’s try and Nyaenya Moseti’s conversion reduced the tally for Leos.
Arunga was later voted the Most Promising Player as Ben Salem of Nondescripts emerged the top scorer with George Ooro of Leos being the MVP.
