Rugby: MMUST versus Kabras to kick off Kabeberi Sevens on Saturday

A clash between Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) and Kabras Sugar will kick off the opening leg of the 2022 National Sevens Circuit, Kabeberi Sevens set to be played at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday.

MMUST will face off with the reigning Kenya Cup champions from 9am before defending national champions KCB take on Western Bulls at 9.20am in the opening two Group B matches.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, MMUST head coach Ochieng Ahaya rallied his players to give their best and not to fear the might of KCB and Kabras Sugar.

“My boys there is only one way, the only way, the hard way. Go after them, let them know no peace. It is the only remedy. Rugby. It is the first match. All the way Makaka. The outward facing sword must turn the other way. Lurambi must respect the roots. You are all we have, and you are as good as they come,” Ahaya told his players.

MMUST selected a 13-man squad for the two-day Kabeberi Sevens which comprises of Muhanji William, Erick Cantona, Derrick Okisai, Felix Wamocho, Lameck Ambetsa, John Bahati, Nobert Lumbwani, Collins Ngoko, Washington Ombima, Griffin Chao, Bivon Okoth and Mark Oluoch.

On the other hand, Kabras Sugar sevens coach Max Adaka has included Shujaa youngster Kevin Wekesa in the squad alongside fomer Kenya under 20 star William Opaka.

Walter Okoth who impressed with Nakuru RFC in the 2019 Circuit will make his first sevens appearance for the Sugarmen alongside Dan Angwech, Paul Abuto, Habil Malik, Alfred Orege, Dan Angwech and Bede Enonda who were part of the 2019 Kabras Sevens squad.

Adaka who attained his World Rugby level 2 certification in 2021 will be assisted by Edwin Achayo as Felix Ayange is set to serve as the team manager.

Other group matches will follow as the quarterfinals, semis and finals set to be concluded.
