Kenya national Sevens rugby team, Shujaa, collected 10 points after a slow start to the 2021-2022 World Sevens Series that kicked off with the Dubai Sevens first leg over the weekend.

Shujaa had a poor start to the new season managing only an eighth-place finish.

Kenya lost twice; against Argentina and USA, before defeating Spain in their Group B encounters during the opening day on Friday.

They scrapped through to the knockout stage courtesy of best-loser position and played Fiji in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Fiji knocked Kenya out after a 19-5 comeback win which relegated Innocent Simiyu’s charges to rankings matches for positions five to eight where they met Great Britain, who once again thrashed them 33-5.

The defeat relegated Shujaa further to the position seven and eight classification match, which again, did not go their way after losing 29-7 to Ireland. Shujaa ended the tournament with just one win out of the six matches played.

After the first round of the 2022 World 7s Series tournaments- Dubai 7s, 2021 Champions South Africa are top of the Standings.

BlitzbokS were brilliant winning all their six matches in Dubai to retain the title with 22 points. Finalists USA, who suffered a 42-7 loss to South Africa, are second with 19 points on the log.

Olympics Bronze medallists Argentina finished third in Dubai after beating Olympic Champions Fiji 19-12. A third-place finish in Dubai has earned them 17 points just two above Fiji, who are fourth with 15 points.
