Kenya Sevens to play Canada, USA in Dubai 7s second leg

Kenya Sevens have been drawn with in Group B ahead of the second leg of the Dubai Sevens slated for next Friday.

Shujaa will renew rivalry with USA again in the second event of the 2021/22 World Rugby Sevens Series.

Shujaa, who finished Dubai Sevens first leg in position eight with 10 points, will also face Australia and Canada in Pool “B”.

South Africa are in Group A and will face off with Great Britain, Ireland, and Japan as the final pool features Dubai 7s Bronze winners Argentina, Fiji, France, and Spain.

Kenya Sevens collected 10 points after a slow start to the 2021-2022 World Sevens Series which kicked off with the Dubai Sevens first leg played over the weekend.

Shujaa had a poor start to the new season managing only an eighth place finish.

Kenya lost twice after going down to Argentina and USA before a win against Spain in their Group B encounters during the opening day on Friday.

They scrapped through to the knockout stage courtesy of best loser position and played Fiji in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Fiji knocked Kenya out after a comeback 19-5 win which relegated Innocent Simiyu’s charges to rankings matches for positions five to eight where they met Great Britain who once again thrashed them 33-5.

The defeat relegated Shujaa further to the position seven and eight classification match which again did not go their way after losing 29-7 to Ireland. Shujaa end the tournament with just one win out of the six matches played.

After the first round of the 2022 World 7s Series tournaments- Dubai 7s, 2021 Champions South Africa are top of the Standings.

BlitzbokS were brilliant winning all their six matches in Dubai to retain the title and have 22 points after victory in the tournament. Finalists USA who suffered a 42-7 loss to South Africa sit second with 19 points on the log.

Olympics Bronze medalist Argentina finished third in Dubai after beating Olympic Champions Fiji 19-12. A third-place finish in Dubai has earned them 17 points just two above Fiji who are fourth with 15 points.
