Last season’s runners up Kabras Sugar got off their Kenya Cup campaign with a blistering start after teaching Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad serious rugby lessons in a thrilling 49-3 win at Moi Showground in Kakamega.

The sugar men ran over seven tries in what was Kenya Cup’s biggest win as the new season kicked off across the country.

The win also saw Kabras extend their dominance over Blak Blad.

The hosts landed seven tries despite missing key players currently outside the country on international duties with the Kenya Simbas.

With no Brian Tanga, Jone Kubu and Dan Sikuta among others, it was time for new match day heroes to rise up and rise up they did as Hillary Mwanjilwa and Asuman Mugerwa bagged a brace in the victory.

Kabras got off to a bright start after Mwanjilwa opened the scores immediately after kickoff with Ntabeni Dukisa converting for a 7-0 lead.

Lionel Ekesa gave the visitors their first and only three points after converting a penalty before Kabras stretched their lead to 14-3 after Mugerwa bulldozed himself past the tryline and Dukisa adding the twos.

Former Kenya Sevens international Felix Ayange added his name to the try-scorers list minutes later for a 21-3 lead.

Mugerwa grabbed his second try of the game after being set up by Hillary Odhiambo as South African Dukisa took the scores to 28-3.

Mwanjilwa further stretched the lead minutes to halftime, after a powerful pick and carry for a comfortable 35-3 half time lead.

In the final half, the sugar millers picked from where they left and extended their lead to 42-3 after a penalty try.

New boy Emmanuel Victor bagged the last try as Kabras enjoyed a 49-3 bonus point win.

Kabras lead he standings with five points.
