Newly promoted Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) will be seeking to start their top-flight season on a high when they visit Charity Cup champions Kabras Sugar RFC at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday.

Speaking to The Standard Sport, MMUST captain Collins Abuga said they are confident of registering a positive result when they take on Kabras Sugar in the Kenya Cup.

Abuga said they are ready for their test against giants Kabras, adding that they have been preparing for the huge stage for the past four years.

“We are ready for the big stage. It has been a learning four years journey for us, hitting lows and high but now we are here ready to showcase our talent.”

“Kenyans got a glimpse of MMUST during the 2019 National Sevens Circuit but now they have the chance of enjoying good rugby week in week out,” said the captain.

MMUST was promoted to the Kenya Cup earlier this month after edging out former Kenya Cup champions Mean Machine in the promotion semifinal playoffs, an achievement Abuga says motivates the team ahead of their huge test in their maiden season.

“Kabras have been local heavyweights for the past six years and we respect them. They have many good players that can hurt you from any side of the pitch including their forwards. However, we are MMUST and we did not reach this far out of nothing.”

“We will give them a tough duel and hurt them at our strongholds. We believe in ourselves and we will give our best to ensure we start the season on a high note,” Abuga said.
