Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) will be hoping to continue with the perfect start they have had in the 2019-2020 KRU Championship when they host Eldoret RFC at MMUST grounds in Kakamega today.

The Kakamega-based students have already bagged two victories against Egerton Wasps and United States International University (USIU RFC) which place them second behind leaders Strathmore Leos with eight points.

MMUST coach Ahaya Ochieng said they are prepared to fight for the top spot with a massive win today.

“Two victories in a row is a good start and I have trust in the boys that they will deliver another important victory today. We are working on catching up with Strathmore who are one point ahead and therefore we are going for a bonus win,” he said.

In Nairobi, former Kenya Cup outfit University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine and last year’s playoff semi-finalists USIU will be seeking to register their first wins of the season after losing their first two matches.

Mean Machine who are 10th in the standings, will be welcoming Northern Suburbs as USIU, who are second last in the standings, host Kisii RFC.

“We have to bounce back from the disappointing two results against Kisii. We have started off in a low but I believe we can start afresh with a win today,” USIU captain Eliud Mulakoli said.

League leaders and former Kenya Cup side Strathmore Leos welcome Catholic Monks to the Madaraka grounds as they seek to regain their top flight rugby status.

The weekend will also be highlighted by the Coastal derby between South Coast Pirates and Mombasa RFC at St Joseph’s Primary Ukunda grounds.

Pirates managed a double over Mombasa last season, a feat that they will be keen to maintain this season.
