KRU reiterates that focus is now on World Cup in Moscow

Kenya: The Kenya Rugby Union has praised the current work ethic of the Rugby Sevens team and the inspired leadership of their Head Coach Mike Friday and said the country expects good performance at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow on June 28-30.
KRU Chairman Mwangi Muthee said: “We have a good team and knowledgeable people who should place us up there with the favourites to win the World Cup”.
He said the team, the KRU Board and Kenyans in general, were focused on the World Cup as a united front while releasing a statement which he said should lay the foundation for a hyped-up support for the team from all quarters in the country.

The KRU Board consists of a smart group of professionals from diverse fields. They are servants of the people and the game. They give free service and a lot of their time everyday and they don’t even get sitting allowance and indeed they have stepped up their commitment and sacrifices in the run up to the World Cup.
The KRU Board members, even when they chose to travel with the team, pay for everything, including their hotel bills. Their sacrifice and dedication is just admirable.
Wrong conclusions have been made when the Board has had to make necessary corrective administrational decisions once in a while. But the rugby fraternity can rest assured that all KRU Board members are independent-minded and rational thinking individuals.
The Board meetings are held amid a lot of humour and there is no room for dictatorial proclamations or arm-twisting. Decisions of the Board are the result of democratic process.
Right now, the focus is to do well in the Sevens World Cup. The Kenya squad leaves for camp training in England funded by the Union, our friend in the United Kingdom and the Kenya Government.
Coach Mike Friday and all the men are up-beat and raring to go to represent Kenya at the pinnacle of the game and they are equal to the task.
We [the KRU] have other immediate short-term goals of achievement. Our national team [XV] is about to embark on an attempt to qualify for the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England and Wales.
We take part in a CAR (Confederation of African Rugby) Africa Zone qualification tournament in Madagascar, soon. We must win that championship so as to make the final round, next year, in the fight for an African Zone slot for the World Cup.
