Wounded MMUST collide with Kabras in Kakamega derby

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) will be seeking to end their three match winless run when they host unbeaten Kabras Sugar in a Kenya Cup match at MMUST Grounds, Kakamega today.
The university students have found the going tough after losing three straight games against Strathmore Leos, Menengai Oilers and Kenya Harlequin despite kicking off the 2021-2022 season with victories over Nondescripts and Homeboyz.
Speaking to the Standard Sports, MMUST assistant head coach John Asila said they are in good shape and are ready to bounce back to winning ways.
Asila rubbished talks that they are out of form, saying very minor mistakes cost them against Leos (25-24) and Quins (21-20).
“The team is in good form. We are playing very well at the moment and it is just some slight mistakes that are affecting the team. We know Kabras are a force to reckon in Kenya Cup but we have trained well throughout the week and we are ready for them," explained Asila.

“Apart from Timothy Mmasi who is national duty, the rest of players are available for selection. Of course his input will be greatly missed but I believe we have players who can fill the gap and play well."
Kabras Sugar return to action after missing last weekend’s round five matches after their game against Nondies was postponed. Just like MMUST the millers will miss the services of Kevin Wekesa, Derrick Ashiundu and Fijian-born full back Jone Kubu who are all with national sevens team, Shujaa, preparing for the Malaga leg in Spain.
Meanwhile, focus this weekend will be on the relegation zone battle as former champions Top Fry Nakuru and Impala Saracens try to turn around their fortunes after a poor start to the season.
Nakuru, champions in 2013 and 2014, currently sit in the 11th place, having amassed two points after drawing one and losing four of their five matches. They have an uphill battle against 1983 champions Mwamba in an early kickoff match at the RFUEA Ground.
Impala also find themselves in unfamiliar territory, occupying the bottom spot after losing all their five matches and are yet to pick up a point.
The 10-time Kenya Cup champions head into the clash against Blak Blad aware that another loss might complicate their chances of maintaining their 25 year stay in the Kenya Cup.
Elsewhere, current leaders Oilers welcome Homeboyz at the ASK Showground in Nakuru as 17-time champions Nondescripts host KCB at the Ngong Racecourse. Kenya Harlequin and Strathmore Leos clash in another highly anticipated encounter at the RFUEA Ground.
