Defending Kenya Cup Champions KCB Rugby Club stretched their lead atop the standings to 24 points after edging out Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) 22-03 at Ruaraka Grounds.

The win saw the bankers continue with their good winning run that also stretched to five matches unbeaten.

Francis Mwita crossed over the whitewash with Shaban Ahmed adding the extras for a 7-0 lead in the 20th minute before captain Curtis Lilako ensured the hosts took a comfortable 14-0 lead at the break after touching down with Ahmed adding the twos.

In the final half, Shaban Ahmed stretched the lead to 17 points after converting a penalty successfully before Nobert Lumbwani pulled a penalty back for MMUST.

Griffin Musila sealed the bankers win with a late unconverted try that saw open a nine-point gap ahead of rivals Kabras Sugar RFC.

KCB top the standings with 24 points followed by Kabras with 15 points but with two games at hand.

In other matches varsity side Strathmore Leos defeated Nondescripts 29-22 to register their first Kenya Cup win of the campaign.

Both sides were still searching for their first win of the season ahead of the match but it was the university students who achieved their goal first.

The other match saw Impala Saracens draw 15-15 with Mwamba.
