Kenya Sevens rugby team is back in the country after a fairly impressive outing in the fourth and fifth rounds of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Wellington and Las Vegas

The Felix Ochieng trained side garnered 18 points from the two legs to move up to 12th position on the IRB Series standings.

And for reaching the Main Cup quarterfinals in New Zealand and winning the Bowl Competition in USA, Shujaa received a bonus cheque of USD 14,994 USD (Equivalent to Shs 1369057.16) from their official sponsors Kenya Airways.

Speaking during a welcome breakfast for the team at Ole Sereni Hotel, coach Felix Ochieng was full of praise for his charges.

“I am very pleased with the performance of the boys. Despite losing the first game, we remained focused and with character and determination we got something out of it,” said Ochieng.

“From onset, you could see the passion, desire and hunger to win matches in players. But this is not the best position for us and we must work extra hard ahead of the Hong Kong assignment.”

Kenya’s next assignment will be on 27-29 March in China (sixth leg) where they’ve been pooled in Group D together with Mike Friday’s USA, England and Wales.
