Two children aged four and two died while undergoing treatment after they sustained serious burns when fire broke out in their house in Naivasha.

During the incident at YMCA Camp in South Lake, property worth thousands of shillings was reduced to ashes.

The incident comes a fortnight after three minors were burnt to death in Kinungi village along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Josiah Odongo, said the two minors were alone when the incident occurred around 8pm.

He said the public rescued the children and rushed them to Naivasha sub-county hospital before they were referred to PGH Nakuru for specialised treatment.

"The burns were serious and the two minors unfortunately passed on while undergoing treatment. Police have opened an inquest file," he said.

Meanwhile, security agencies in Naivasha have raised concerns over increased cases of students involved in the sale and use of bhang.

This came after security officers nabbed another haul of bhang in Kabati estate as two suspects said to be brothers managed to escape the police dragnet.

In the last two months, police have arrested four suspects involved in the illegal trade and bhang worth more than Sh2m recovered, mostly in the informal settlement.

Naivasha DCC said they have received information of students who were dropping out of school to join the narcotics trade.

During the sting operation, police recovered two motorcycles, TV sets, and rolls of bang even as the DCC vowed to take swift action against perpetrators aiding the drug trade.

"One of the suspects we are pursuing has an ongoing criminal case and it's a matter of time before we catch up with him," said the DCC.

Odongo said police have nabbed thousands of litres of ethanol and tens of suspects charged before the Naivasha Law Courts.
