Farmers urged to adopt climate-smart agriculture

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi has urged farmers to adopt climate-smart agriculture for sustainable economic growth.
The governor made the remarks during the Kabarnet Agricultural Society of Kenya Show launch on Friday.
He insisted that adopting climate-smart agriculture will enhance food security and improve nutrition across the county.
By embracing the initiative, the governor said that the county will safeguard and pave the way for healthier communities and a vibrant economy with enough food.

He emphasised that the show brought together farmers, innovators, and stakeholders creating a space for exchanging ideas, showcasing innovations, and discussing the future of agriculture in the county.
Climate change, he added, has threatened the food security and livelihoods of many families across Baringo.
"We are reminded of the immense challenge posed by climate change, our farmers have already begun to feel its effects which include: unpredictable rainfall, prolonged droughts, and increasing pressure on our natural resources," he added.
He encouraged farmers to embrace farming techniques that are resilient, sustainable, and productive.
"Technology plays a vital role in modernising agriculture, as a county we are implementing innovative solutions such as precision farming, mobile applications, and data-driven decision-making," Cheboi said.
The county he said has supported and promoted local milk processing, with the county milk plant located in Eldama Ravine processing 50,000 litres of milk per day.
The Deputy Governor, Felix Kipng'ok, said that the show holds significant value as farmers and traders showcase ways to advance agriculture.
"I encourage farmers and all residents to take agricultural shows seriously and use them as learning opportunities. By embracing modern farming techniques, we can boost food production," he said.
Kipng'ok explained that the show served as an important networking avenue, helping farmers strengthen their connections.
