A petition seeking Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi from office has been filed at the county assembly.

Jacob Kiplagat last week petitioned the Baringo County Assembly to remove Cheboi claiming the governor has failed to discharge his duties.

In the petition received at the Assembly on April 16, Kiplagat claims there are rampant cases of degradation of the procurement and tendering processes of projects in the county.

He alleges that some people have continued to frustrate contractors, suppliers and many have had their properties auctioned while others have sunk into depression after the county government failed to pay them their dues.

Kiplagat says the Auditor General has continuously raised adverse reports against the county government on massive misappropriation of funds such as illegal purchase of vehicles, failure to procure critical medical equipment including CT-Scan, X-ray machines, among others.

The petitioner notes that he has exhausted all the available avenues to have the various issues raised in his petition resolved but to no avail.

Kiplagat wants the assembly to investigate the governor to determine his suitability to continue holding office, citing blatant violation of the law.

He says the county assembly should find that the governor has continued to ignore calls to put his government in order and call out members of his administration who are hell-bent on sabotaging the Kenya Kwanza agenda and commitment such as taming issues of corruption.

"The county assembly do find that the governor is in gross violation of the Constitution, Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012 and ought to be removed from office to restore the sanctity and confidence of the people of Baringo County and as such there are serious reasons to warrant his removal from office," stated Kiplagat in the petition.

He added that the assembly has a responsibility to safeguard the interests of the people of Baringo.
