Detectives in Nandi South are pursuing a police officer, who is suspected of defiling a minor at Kaptumo Police Station.
According to police preliminary investigation, the suspect who is a constable was on duty when the incident occurred between 12 am and 2 am on Sunday.
The minor is said to have been taken to the station for disciplinary action by her parents and was among other three female detainees.
Peter Njogu, the Nandi County Police Commander, said that the suspected officer allegedly removed a 16-year-old girl from the cell before he defiled her.

“Some of the officers, who were on duty, were out for regular patrol and the officer was left on the booking desk. While taking roll call in the cells, the suspect lured the detainee out of the cell and defiled her in the booking office,” he claimed.
When the police officers returned to the station hours later, the female detainees reported what transpired, which prompted a swift investigation.
The victim’s parents were summoned and the minor was taken to Kaptumo Health Centre for medical examination.
“The medical outcome shows that the minor was defiled and we are pursuing the suspected officer. He disappeared shortly after the incident was unearthed, and he will be taken to court once arrested,” said Mr Njogu.
He further said that the minor has been released to go for treatment as the investigation continues.
