Biashara Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Njoroge alias Wanyaguthie will appear in court on June 25.

The politician, who is accused of harassing traders over public toilets, was to appear in court on Monday but his arraignment was postponed.

Nakuru DCIO David Wangai said he was perusing Njoroge’s file to ensure a watertight case.

“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) advised me to ensure thorough investigations before the accused can be arraigned,” he said.

Mashambani Stage Self-help Group (MSSG) members, who claim ownership of the public toilets at Lion’s Garden, claimed the MCA, accompanied by goons, harassed them.

A member of MSSG who sought anonymity said they were given the space to build the pay toilets by the county government and went ahead to put up 14 of them.

“We pay taxes and rent to the county government. Last Thursday, they came, harassed employees, took our licences and assaulted the cashier,” he claimed.

But yesterday, Wanyaguthie said he was not involved in the raid and that he did not know why he was arrested.

Thirteen other people were also arrested.

“I went to the police only to be told that I had something to do with the goons who caused disturbances at the toilet,” he said.
