There is no denying that sex is a big part of most romantic relationships. Both men and women want to have this physical connection with their partner, although the levels at which you want this connection may differ.

This motivation for intimacy is established before a relationship reaches the dating stage. And as superficial as it sounds, we can tell whether sexual attraction is present or absent by looking. If there is no sexual attraction, we move on.

When we look at the different dynamics of sex and relationships, the question often arises as to whether a relationship can exist happily (emphasis on happily) without sex. Of course, sex isn't the only form of intimacy, but how many people can survive comfortably in a relationship without sex? Read on.

Technically, it is possible to have a relationship without sex. We can divide people who agree into two categories: couples who voluntarily choose not to have sex, and those who have found themselves in a particular situation.

Couples who choose not to have sex may do so for reasons such as celibacy. There are also people who want to maintain certain boundaries until they get married, so they're happy to stay together even if they're not currently exploring sex. In these scenarios, however, you will find that the motivation to stick it out comes from the expectation of sex in the future.

On the other hand, there are couples who haven't necessarily chosen not to have sex, but still feel fulfilled. In these cases, you may find that one spouse is ill or recovering from something that doesn't allow them to have sex.

Although they can't have sex temporarily or permanently, some of these couples still love each other deeply and choose to stay together especially married couples. So yes, you can have a relationship without sex.

In situations where sex is something that is missing or lacking, it has a more negative undertone and can be a strong indicator of deeper problems. It's natural to want to have sex with someone you love, so when nothing happens in the bedroom, feelings of insecurity and mistrust creep in.

A common situation is when there is infidelity in the relationship. In fact, a sudden decline in intimacy for no real reason could be one of the first signs of infidelity. You're not happy, the sex isn't satisfying and eventually, you leave.

But you can still be happy without sex if there are real reasons for it and it's a mutual decision between the two of you.

Outside of these situations, very few people will have the motivation to stay. And if they do, they may be suffering from the imbalance of a sexless relationship, where one person wants sex and the other doesn't. It's a sign that something's not quite right, and it's the kind of situation that gradually leads to the decline of a relationship.
