Manchester United are preparing for contract talks with defender Luke Shaw.

The in-form left-back has been one of United’s standout performers in recent weeks and has been rewarded with an England recall for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

Shaw is enjoying what has arguably been his best season with United since joining from Southampton in 2014.

He appears to have shaken off the injury problems with have dogged him for several years and hampered his progress at Old Trafford.

As a result, and thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s confidence in him, Shaw has established himself.

He still has two years to run on his deal at United but he is seen very much a part of Solskjaer’s plans going forward and the club are ready to offer him fresh terms that will align him more closely with their big earners.

Shaw cost United almost £34million when he joined in 2014, having worked his way through the Saints’ academy to their first team.

Shaw returned to the England squad this week, but his teammate Marcus Rashford may be pulled out if he misses the FA Cup last eight clash with Leicester on Sunday.

Solskjaer said: "He struggled a little bit in Milan and came off so he’s doubtful for Sunday, but we hope he will be okay.

“As for England I don’t know.

"Of course, if he can’t play for us then it is more difficult to go and travel with England because then the injury is more serious than just a day or two.”
