Willian is hopeful that Arsenal can win the Premier League under Mikel Arteta in the not-too-distant future.

The Brazilian joined the Gunners in a free transfer move from Chelsea in the summer, and the 32-year-old has so far made nine appearances for his new club.

Those matches included the 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford last week, and Willian says that result is one that proves Arsenal can compete at the top.

"That was a great victory at United and important for me to be part of as I know I have to impose my quality on the team," Willian told the Mail Online.

"That victory was a big step.

"The squad is good with great, young talent but they also need experienced players who have won things. It is not easy or quick to change a mentality but we are on the way."

It terms of winning the title under Arteta, Willian thinks that while this season might have come too soon for this group of players, it could be a different story in 2022.

"Arsenal have a great coach and a great chance to fight for titles," he said.

"We can win the league. Maybe not this time but next time. I'm motivated to have more success."

Much of Willian's confidence is down to the impact of Arteta.

"It's because of his ideas. The way he sees football is different. The structure, the way he talks, his advice. It's unique. He will be one of the best I think," he added.

"He just wants me to be the same player I was at Chelsea. Take the ball and go one on one. Dribble, take shots. But with his ideas and instructions I can get better."
