The Premier League have confirmed that there has been one positive coronavirus case in the latest round of testing.

The case emerged from the seventh round of tests conducted at all 20 clubs, with 1,213 players and staff tested for COVID-19 in across both June 8 and 9.

It remains the league's intention to resume playing matches on June 17, when Aston Villa will host Sheffield United at Villa Park and Manchester City will take on Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

The one positive test brings to total of positive Premier League cases to 14 across the seven rounds of testing, which began on May 17 and 18.

The news comes after the Stoke City manager Michael O'Neill tested positive shortly before the Championship club were due to face Manchester United in a behind closed doors friendly match at United's Carrington training ground on Tuesday.

O'Neill was informed of his test result before the match, leading to Stoke's players and staff immediately leaving the training ground.

"Stoke City can confirm that manager Michael O'Neill has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus following the latest round of testing on Monday (June 8)," said the club in a statement.

"O'Neill had tested negative in the previous five rounds of testing.

"He will now follow the relevant guidance and undergo a period of isolation, whilst continuing to be in regular virtual contact with his coaching staff and players.

"Assistant manager Billy McKinlay will take charge of training as the Potters prepare for their game against Reading on June 20.

"The club will be making no further comment on this matter."
