Unai Emery's first taste of English football was a resounding 2-0 home defeat to champions Manchester City.
While it was undoubtedly a baptism of fire for the Spaniard, Arsenal's new manager will take comfort from the fact that Pep's swashbuckling City side will be one of the Gunners' toughest tests this year.
The former PSG boss has brought in a number of new players during his short reign at the Emirates, and with a strong desire to tie Aaron Ramsey down to a long-term deal, Arsenal are attempting to balance the books by offloading several fringe players before the European transfer deadline closes on August 31st.

Mohamed Elneny
Mirror Football understands that Arsenal are open to allowing Mohamed Elneny to join Marseille in a bid to cut their increasing wage bill.
Elneny has been in and out of the first-team since his arrival in 2016, and has struggled to nail down a starting position. And, with the signings of Lucas Torreira and Mattéo Guendouzi, as well as the emergence of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, the Egyptian has fallen even further down the pecking order in Arsenal's midfield.
David Ospina
The acquisition of Bernd Leno has effectively ended Ospina's Arsenal career, with the German expected to battle it out with Petr Cech for the No.1 jersey.
Ospina is reportedly desperate to play more first-team football, and Besiktas looked the most likely landing spot, although talk of that move seems to have cooled.
Emery is still supposedly keen to get the Colombian off the wage books, though, particularly as Arsenal have a more-than adequate third-choice keeper in Emi Martinez.
Joel Campbell
Unai Emery has made it clear Campbell is surplus to requirements at the Emirates after the Costa Rican has failed to make an impression on the new manager. The striker joined Arsenal in 2011 and is now in the final year of his contract.
After being left out of Arsenal's squad for the new Premier League season, the writing appears to be on the wall for Campbell, who is expected to join Serie A side Frosinone on a three-year deal in the coming days.
Carl Jenkinson
Jenkinson was left out of Arsenal's 25-man squad that travelled to Singapore last month, with Unai Emery making it clear he would allow the full-back to leave. Arsenal have strengthened significantly at the back this summer, bringing in Sokratis and verteran right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner - a signing which looks to have all but ended Jenkinson's Arsenal career.
The defender rejected a £7m move to Crystal Palace last season, and although the club are looking to sell the Englishman they may have to settle for a loan deal at this late stage.
