The call by Anyang Nyon'go, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) interim party leader, for the party members to support President William Ruto's government has gained support.

Makadara MP George Aladwa has reiterated the need for party members to heed Nyong'o's call and give ideas that will contribute to good policies.

"Whereas our democracy provides for both government and opposition sides, the spirit of Kenya is such that a time comes when we put our differences aside for the common good of our people," said Aladwa.

The approach, he said, will improve the welfare of the people under the theme of one indivisible nation where social equity is guaranteed.

Aladwa argued that President Ruto had shown goodwill by appointing some ODM members to the cabinet. Thus, the party extending its support to government means them supporting their members.

This he said will help them to deliver on their mandate to serve Kenyans and contribute positively towards socio-economic and political development.

"As legislators and leaders, we serve the same public whose desire is to have roads, markets, healthcare, education, housing amongst others offered to them," he said.

Last week, Nyong'o called on the ODM members to rally behind Ruto's inclusive government, terming it a national democratic and developmental state.

The move by ODM to back government has been met with support and opposition almost in equal measure, with divisions emerging within the party that threatens its coexistence.

The ODM members in Ruto's cabinet are John Mbadi at National Treasury, Opiyo Wandayi in charge Energy and Petroleum.

Others are Ali Hassan Joho in Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs; and Wycliffe Oparanya at the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development.
