Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi has called on security agencies to swing into action and arrest those stealing and vandalizing property during protests.

In a statement, the Kanu boss, noted that Tuesday's protest was infiltrated by gangs whose aim was to discredit genuine protestors.

The gangs, he noted, engaged in looting, vandalizing property, and stealing from individuals.

"We call on security officers to swiftly arrest and charge these disruptive elements, while also ensuring the protection of the peaceful and unarmed protestors," he said.

He said previously, the protests have been peaceful, characterized by participants carrying placards and water and chanting in solidarity.

He condemned the acts of looting and vandalism and urged the genuine protestors to remain vigilant and help in identifying and isolating individuals seeking to exploit the protests for their gain.

Due to the protests and fear of having their property vandalized, businesses remained closed for the better part of the day yesterday.

The city's Central Business District, following the closure of the businesses, remained a battleground for the police and the youths.

Police lobbed teargas and shot in the air to disrupt the youths.
