Ruto tells MCAs to spread word on KK projects

Amidst a backdrop of mounting governance challenges and dwindling approval ratings among citizens, President William Ruto has tasked Kenya Kwanza MCAs with championing the political alliance's manifesto at the grassroots level.

Ruto urged the MCAs to understand and passionately communicate UDA's manifesto to citizens at the grassroots level.

Highlighting the government's commitment to transforming the lives of Kenyans, President Ruto emphasised a host of ongoing programmes aimed at socioeconomic empowerment.

These include initiatives such as subsidised fertiliser distribution, universal healthcare, affordable housing projects, and the establishment of ICT hubs, among others.

"We will make sure every region gets adequate fertiliser. Our goal is to increase food production and eradicate hunger," he said.

However, acknowledging the challenges faced in programme implementation, particularly in reaching unregistered farmers for subsidised fertiliser distribution, Ruto called upon MCAs to play a pivotal role in mobilising their constituents for registration.

On healthcare, President Ruto emphasised the enactment of key legislation to facilitate the smooth implementation of universal health coverage, guaranteeing access to quality healthcare for all Kenyans.

"We must always remember that delivering to the people is our mandate," said Ruto at a meeting in State House.

In a poignant reflection on the changing political landscape, the president emphasised the need for issue-based politics, stressing that Kenyans are weary of divisive ethnic and tribal rhetoric. He underscored the importance of unity and visionary leadership in propelling the nation forward.

Echoing the sentiment of transparency and accountability, Ruto called for amendments to standing orders in county assemblies to allow county executive committee members to address questions, mirroring practices in the national Parliament.

DP Rigathi Gachagua echoed Ruto's sentiments, urging MCAs to collaborate with the government in advancing the development agenda.

"You are dedicated to passing bills that have facilitated the implementation of key development programmes at the counties," he said.

Those present at the meeting included governors Ann Waiguru, Cecily Mbarire, Ken Lusaka and Susan Kihika, as well as Majority Leaders Aaron Cheruiyot and Kimani Ichungw'ah.

MPs Naomi Waqo, Steve Lelegwe, Boni Khalwale and Sylvanus Osoro were also present.
