Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is walking a tightrope after a section of MCAs began the formal process to impeach him.

On Tuesday, the MCAs tabled the impeachment motion against the governor during the afternoon sitting in the assembly.

The MCAs have listed nine grounds for removal from office of Nyaribo.

The motion was tabled by Esise Ward Representative Josiah Mang'era in a session attended by 23 MCAs out of a total of 34 MCAs.

This follows weeks of intense lobbying among MCAs supporting the planned ouster and those opposed to it.

Among the issues the MCAs have raised against the governor include alleged abuse of office and gross misconduct, alleged disobedience of court orders as well as non-compliance to the minimum development budget.

The MCAs argue that Nyaribo has allegedly committed offences that warrant his ouster.

Earlier, there was tension at the assembly grounds after police officers were deployed following claims that unknown people were planning to cause mayhem.

So far 15 MCAs have supported the impeachment motion against the governor while 19 have opposed.

The faction that is forging for Nyaribo's removal from office includes Deputy Speaker Thadeus Nyabaro and Deputy Leader of Majority Duke Masira while the other pro-Nyaribo faction is led by his United Progressive Party National Chairman Nyambega Gisesa.

Speaker Enoch Okero said the motion will be subjected to debate after seven days.
