The National Assembly is set to convene a special sitting to review several motions including the vetting of the nominee for the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) position.

In a notice on September 7, the speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula stated that the sitting will take place on Thursday, September 14 at Parliament chamber in Nairobi.

"I have received and acceded to the request from the leader of the Majority Party for the National Assembly to hold Special Sittings. It is hereby notified to members of the National Assembly and the general public that Thursday, September 14 has been appointed as a day for special sittings of the National Assembly commencing at 10.00 am and at 2.30pm, respectively," the speaker said.

A special sitting is sometimes convened in the house when it alters its normal schedule of sittings to accommodate special events or ceremonies, or to adopt a motion for a joint address.

During the Thursday sitting, there will be tabling of special motions including a report of the departmental committee on Justice and Legal Affairs on the vetting of nominees for appointment of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Also to be considered next week is vetting of the nominee for appointment of the chairperson of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Kenya.

Additionally, a report of the select committee on the National Government Constituencies Development Fund on the approval for appointment of the nominee to the National Government Constituencies Development Fund Board shall be tabled before the House.

MPs will also be reviewing a joint report by the departmental committee on Finance and National Planning and Agriculture and Livestock Department on the memorandum of the National Treasury and Economic Planning on Action plans to revive and commercialise state-owned sugar companies.

Wetangula further stated that he will use the special sitting to convey any urgent information from the President, the National Executive, or the Senate.
