ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has urged religious leaders from Nyanza to back President William Ruto's regime.

The CS said the government is in the process of implementing several programs to transform the lives of citizens.

The government is keen to rally support for its programs across the country and considers Nyanza as one of the critical areas it seeks to garner support.

Owalo hosted more than 300 religious leaders drawn from the four Luo Nyanza counties in Rarieda, where he shared the government's agenda for the region.

He asked the church to use its influence to help create a favourable and conducive environment in the region for private sector investment and partnership with the government.

"The Kenya Kwanza government has good plans for the region, and we're committed to working with the churches to develop the region," said Owalo.

Among the church leaders present were Bishop Johannes Angela (ACK), Father John Pesa (Coptic Church), Archbishop David Matengo (AIC Church), Archbishop Eng Caleb Olali (Nomiya Faiths), Archbishop Musa Osewe (Legio Maria), Fauzia Shaban (Muslim Faith), and Elizabeth Okal (SDA Church), among others.

Other leaders present included Siaya County Commissioner Jim Njoka and George Okungu, former MD of the Kenya Pipeline Company.

In his department, the CS said the government has already started rolling out digital hubs nationwide.

"We are also rolling out free WiFi in markets to help improve access to the internet," he said.

According to the CS, the government is committed to exploiting digital technology to create employment.

Religious leaders who attended the meeting urged the government to address key economic concerns of the region, including frequent flooding in some parts of Nyanza.
