International lady player handicap 0.5 Cheza Millar was an inspiration as her partnership with teammates led Wine Box to a 4-2.5 win over Dudutec in the Fawcus Cup final at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil, yesterday.

The team of handicap 4.5 Jamie Murray, Harry Griffiths (1.5) and Will Millar (1) was a joy to watch as they inspired Cheza (Millar), who was in the national ladies team that defeated United States of America 7-4 as a reserve player.

By playing in the same team with experienced players like Murray and Griffiths, Cheza is destined for bigger things in Kenya’s polo industry.

After trailing by one and half goals scored by Nikki Barlow in the first chukka for Dudutec, who started the match at the advantage of half a fraction of a goal from their low handicap, Murray made a formidable comeback in the remaining chukkas to score the four goals that helped them lift the title.

Murray first cancelled Burlow’s lead in the second chukka and followed it with a double in the third chukka before wrapping it up with another one in the final chukka.

On their part, handicap 2.5 Izzy Voorspuy, who captained the team that destroyed the Americans last weekend, added the tally for Dudutec in the second chukka as superb defending by teammates Callum Shaw(2.5) and Geoff Morley (1.5) could not save the day for the losers.

In the three-match-three-day round-robin series of the Annesley Cup, the handicap 2 Gold Suite team of Mbu Ngugi (2.5), Ed Burbidge (0), Kailla Millar (0) and Simon Muchene (-0.5) lifted the title against Smartcrop.

Gold Suite defeated Smartcrop with a goal aggregate of 20-11.

Dion Wines lifted the junior tournament title with a goal aggregate of 9-7 after winning all the matches in the three-day event.
