'Follow right path to power', CS Ruku warns opposition

The controversy over who sponsored violence during the June 25 memorial protests has persisted, with senior government officials blaming the trail of deaths and destruction on incitement from opposition politicians.

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating Wednesday's chaos, which he described as 'planned terrorism'.

Ruku further accused the opposition of attempting a forceful takeover of power, contrary to the Constitution, which recognizes the assumption of elective offices through a popular mandate achieved in an election.

"You cannot attain leadership by dividing the nation. It is of no benefit to seek power through polarization and the balkanization of the country," said Ruku.

"Let the opposition tell Kenyans what they will do for them instead of engaging in divisive rhetoric that serves no national interest. The politics of deceit and manipulation must come to an end."

He condemned the widespread violence and destruction of public and private property reported in different locations across the country.

According to Ruku, the nation needs an inter-generational dialogue to address issues raised by the young people including high rates of unemployment which he said are being addressed through measures such as the National Internship Programme which is due for expansion.

"We are committed to ensuring that the youth of this country are not left behind. The internship program will be strengthened to provide hands-on experience and open up employment pathways for our young people," he stated.

Yesterday, leaders aligned with the broad-based government used various platforms to criticise opposition leaders accusing them of using genuine protests to destabilise the country.

Ruku's sentiments echoed those of Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen who revealed that at least 10 people were killed during the protest and vowed stern action against perpetrators.urkomen termed the events a "coordinated, funded, premeditated political campaign" rather than spontaneous unrest.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has denied involvement.

"You are well aware that Gen Z does not require any financing or being led in their cause unless you would want to believe in your lies and cheap propaganda," Gachagua said in response.
