Senegal edged out Mali 1-0 to emerge the inaugural Africa Deaflympics Ball Games Qualifiers men’s football champions.

Marro Khadim converted a penalty for the solitary goal in the 25th minute in the volatile final played at Kasarani Stadium yesterday.

The Senegalese now join the Kenya men and women’s basketball teams and the Kenya women’s football team to represent Africa in the 2022 Deaflympics Games in Brazil.

Ahead of the final, team captain Esther Moraa led Kenya B to thrash Kenya A 4-1 in an early curtain raiser held at the venue.

Emma Wawire  scored a hattrick in the 60th, 72nd and 91st minutes as Moraa added a goal in the 92nd minute for the winners.

“It was a good game between us, we managed to win, I’m glad I scored one goal for my side. We are now going to train hard to prepare ahead for Brazil,” Moraa said.

“We are happy we qualified for the global tournament for the first time,” she added.
