Kenya’s Asiya Mohamed battled bravely Women's Single Sculls under hot and windy conditions at Sea Forest Waterway in Uminomori island to return home in 13:50.29.

On a day that only two competitors made it to the A finals; Israel’s Moran Samuel (11:03.52) and Norway’s Birgit Skarstein (11:11.00), Asiya finished fifth beating Japan’s Tomomi Ichikawa who clocked 13:50.29.

Asiya like the other nine contenders return into the deep waters of Sumida River in Tokyo Bay tomorrow Saturday for the repechage.

Repechage is a practice in series competitions that allows participants who failed to meet qualifying standards by a small margin to continue to the next round.
