National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) and its affiliates once agian failed to agree on new dates to hold elections despite a directive by the Government that they do so.

Instead, yesterday’s meeting between NOCK and its affiliates resolved to seek ways of withdrawing a court case before a new elections date can be announced.

NOCK Deputy Treasurer Stephen Soi said they would have been in contempt of court if they announced dates for elections before the issue in court is resolved.

“We resolved to look into how to engage those who took the case to court with a view to convince them to withdraw it. Had we come up with a date for elections, it would have put us in danger of being in contempt of court,” he said.

“There are several parties involved in the matter and once they all agree, they will enter into consent in court and from there we can move forward with holding the elections.”

Kenya Table Tennis Association chairman Andrew Mudibo on his part blamed NOCK for the stand-off.

“We would not have been in contempt by announcing tentative dates for the elections,” Mudibo said. [Gilbert Wandera]
