British sprinter James Ellington is in hospital after he was involved in a horror motorbike accident in Tenerife.

Ellington and teammate Nigel Levine were both rushed to hospital after they were involved in the head-on collision with a car travelling on the wrong side of the road.

Ellington is said to have suffered an open fracture to his leg and damaged his eye socket in the crash.

The European 4x100m gold medalist has undergone surgery on his smashed tibula and fibula and is also thought to have fractured his pelvis.

The damage is so severe that already British Athletics bosses fear he will never recover his fitness enough to race again.
