Anglican Church opens new Kisii Diocese

The Anglican Church has opened a new Diocese in Kisii.

ACK Archbishop Rev Dr Jackson Ole Sapit led a church service held at Kisii National Polytechnic in the Order and Form of Service for the Enthronement of the Bishop Rev Capt John Orina Omangi to head the Upper Southern Diocese.

Omangi becomes the First ACK Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Upper Southern Nyanza, Kisii.

Upon his enthronement, Omangi said he would revive the Church in the region by bringing members into the fold. "We need churches that address the questions people are asking."

The Bishop said he will ensure that the Church has working departments. "The concept of having a missionary church is something we will encourage. My wish is that we will encourage the use of the Ekegusii prayer book.

"He said he comes to the office knowing how efficiently he will lead the new Diocese.

The ACK Church in Kisii started in 1938 in the Mwembe area.Prayers were held from Kisii School and later moved to Kisii Law Courts premises with 17 Christians and in1959 it was consecrated.

The new Bishop took note of several learning institutions that were founded by the ACK but have since changed hands to the District Education Board.

They include Kisii High School and Daraja Mbili Primary School."We have pieces of land that changed hands, and we don't know who currently owns the same. I am saying this because the Cabinet Secretary for Education is here. We need to think of some of these schools founded by the Anglican Church."

According to Omangi, there was a general feeling that education had stopped being a source of outreach.

"We need to have our children grow and live God. We will recover our lost schools. I appeal for support to build a Technical and Vocational Training Centre in Marani Kisii. This will be a constant reminder of the frames of this day."

The Church, the Bishop said, will focus on taking forward the County and National Governments' agenda.

Archbishop Ole Sapit called on the local Leadership to support the new Diocese in its growth. "We are ready to have the new seed grow with its numbers."

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, who represented President William Ruto, said the Government will support various programs undertaken by the Church.

"I have received various requests from the Head of the Church, and our assurance is that we will support the programs. The President is optimistic about Education matters, and it is within our objectives that we fund Technical Education."
