Two people are nursing gunshot wounds after they were allegedly shot by police officers as they dispersed protestors in Rongo, Migori County.
One of the victims was shot on the thigh as demonstrations against the high cost of living turned ugly.
Maurice Otieno, Rongoo-Sub County Medical Superintendent, confirmed to The Standard that two patients with gunshot wounds were booked at the facility before being referred to Migori County Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
The development came as demonstrators engaged police in running battles in several towns and centers in Migori.
In Uriri, business was paralyzed as residents took to the streets to protest against the high cost of living and area MP Mark Nyamita. On Saturday, Nyamita, had claimed that no protests would take place in his constituency.
