Some officials who served in former Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga's administration are among 4,546 candidates shortlisted for county jobs.

The 2022 election losers have also been shortlisted for the 381 jobs that the County Public Service Board's Chairperson Elijah Achoch said attracted more than 20,000 applicants.

According to the shortlisting that was done last week, former Governor Rasanga's Chief of Staff Auscar Wambiya and Director of Communications Bonny Odinga are among those eyeing various positions.

Dr Omondi Owino, who is currently acting as the chief officer of Public Health and Sanitation and served in the same position in Rasanga's government, is among those shortlisted for the chief officer of Health position.

Also on the list is the former Alego-Usonga parliamentary aspirant Nicholas Kut, who is eyeing the chief officer in the Energy and Transport docket. Kut lost the ODM party primaries to Samuel Atandi.

Secure job

Also attempting to make a comeback is Rosenell Odondi, who served as the county executive in charge of Education. Former Siaya MCAs are among the thousands of candidates shortlisted for various positions.

According to the list from the County Public Service Board (CPSB) dated March 6, 2023, former MCAs Peter Muhula (West Alego), Charlton Andiego (Central Sakwa), Fredrick Opan'ga (North Ugenya), Willis Ochieng (West Yimbo) and Judith Oyugi (East Asembo) have also been shortlisted.

Others include former Chief Officer for Tourism Amos Okello and former Governor Rasanga's Political Advisor George Mawere, who have been shortlisted as chief officer for Environment and Public Relations Officer respectively.

Also making it to the list is former West Gem MCA Jared Abayo. The acting Chief Officer of Finance Jack Odinga is also in the race to secure a job in Governor James Orengo's administration.

He served in Rasanga's administration as county budget director before being deployed as Director of Finance.

The recruitment exercise comes amid several recommendations by a task force led by former Auditor General Edward Ouko.

According to the task force report released last month, the county government should reconsider the ongoing recruitment in line with its recommendation on staff rationalisation.
