A group of women from Northern of Kenya have completed a training programme that equipped them with digital skills.

The programme, offered by the Northern Innovation and Empowerment Hub (NieHub), a social enterprise, aims to empower underserved communities in the region by equipping them with skills that will increase their chances to get job opportunities.

The graduates, who came from various parts of Garissa County, learned basic computer skills, graphic design, software development, social media and digital marketing and systems management.

They received their certificates on February 12.

The programme was supported by several partners, including the County Government of Garissa, Oracle Academy, Ajira Digital Program, eMobilis, Garissa University and the Garissa Chamber of Commerce.

One of the graduates, Ayan Muhamed Abdi, said the programme was a life-changing experience.

"I am grateful for the support and guidance that have paved the way for my future success. This experience has shown me the transformative power of STEM education," she said.

Dephence Mrunde, who leads the Ajira Digital Programme at eMobilis, said the programme was part of a broader initiative to open doors for young women across the country.

"The Ajira Digital Programme is connecting them with real-world skills and digital work opportunities, at the same time empowering them to earn dignified and sustainable income," he said.

The programme is expected to help the graduates catch up with the ever-evolving tech landscape and contribute to the social and economic development of their communities.
