Kalasha International awards back in March

The 13th edition of Kalasha International Film and TV Awards will start on March 27 through to March 30, 2024.
There will be a wide selection of film screenings, premieres, and workshops at the festival, which will culminate with awards on March 30 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
The event is an initiative to promote culture, stories, creativity, and skill.
"The Kalasha International Film Festival and Market, promises a vibrant four-day extravaganza. This event is not just about recognising filmmaking excellence - it is about igniting Kenya's film and television industry, fostering collaboration, and showcasing its talent to the global stage," said Timothy Owase, CEO of Kenya Film Commission.
A survey was done to establish a film fund, which will help producers and storytellers produce real stories.
"The Kenya government is finalising modalities; Sh200,000 was to be paid for the 39 categories in 2022, but it took a while to pay the winners. In future, we will work together and sustain what we promise," said Owaso. The Commission brings the awards in a three-fold event; the Seventh Kalasha International Film and TV Market, the First Edition of Kalasha International Film and TV Festival and the 13th edition of Kalasha International Film and TV Awards.
"We are combining exhibitions and workshops conferences exhibition booths. You will have an opportunity to cut deals, get new partners from other countries, and create an avenue for storytelling. There will be a forum for local producers to engage with their counterparts from other countries," said Owase.
Whether you are a seasoned filmmaker, an aspiring screenwriter, or simply a passionate cinephile, this time round, there seems there be something for everyone.
"We would want to know how many women are participating in the film industry and what roles they are playing. Are they only playing the make-up artiste role or are they playing the role of a director-producer for the data is critical in decision making?" posed Owase.
